Provisional statistics
summer crops online
BKD publishes a survey of the cultivated surface area of flower bulbs and flower tubers being grown in the Netherlands, this area being measured in hectares. The provisional statistics for summer crops 2026 are being published in the upcoming weeks.
Inspections
Our qualified inspectors inspect flower bulbs during planting inspections or field inspections. The field inspection is a mandatory inspection for all lots of flower bulbs. A planting inspection is a quality inspection that in many cases (not always compulsory) plays an important role in determining the classification.
Laboratory & tests
Since some symptoms of viruses cannot be seen with the naked eye, tests carried out in our laboratory also play an important role in the inspection and classification of flower bulbs. The results show whether, and how much virus is present. This determines the classification and export options of a lot.
Im- & exportinspections
Flowers bulbs that are exported to countries outside the EU are checked by the BKD during an export inspection. Those flower bulbs that are imported into the Netherlands from third countries are inspected by the BKD as well.

The implementing guidelines
The implementing guidelines describe the quality requirements for each crop, which requirements are laid down by the relevant sector. All growers of flower bulbs are obliged to comply with these guidelines. View the guidelines for each crop here.
